In 1927, a young Aviator called Charles Lindberg made the first transatlantic flight from New York to Paris. The NY Times wrote: "Lindy Hops The Atlantic" This headline inspired "Shorty"-George Snowden to give a dance that was growing in Harlem the name "Lindy Hop".
